Following drought and famine in the Turkana region, three Japanese school children donated their pocket money for milk, triggering a massive national campaign in Japan. Founder Tadao Murakami traveled to Kenya to manage refugee medical relief camps and construct primary schools.
Formal launching of the Africa Children Education Fund (ACEF) under the motto "Education for healthy kids, medicine for sick kids". Founder Tadao Murakami appointed President, and Yasuo Shiojiri relocated his family of 7 to Embu, Kenya to establish local office operations.
Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Japan Post savings funds, ACEF launched regional development programs including: student learning materials aid, mobile medical camps, women's self-reliance training centers, and vocational trade courses.
To bolster organizational trust and expand partnerships, ACEF registered as a Specific Non-Profit Organization (NPO) in Japan. This triggered corporate social responsibility (CSR) alliances and environmental restoration initiatives.
Funded by environmental agencies, ACEF launched the "School Forests" tree planting initiative, mobilizing children to plant native seedlings. Supported the Gypsmile Makimani orphanage to rescue children affected by the AIDS epidemic.
Founder Tadao Murakami passed away at the age of 76. His daughter, Tomoyo Ogura, assumed office as Representative Director, preserving the founding philosophy of "creating a world where every child is glad to be born."
Executed JICA Grassroots Programs focused on "Environmental Training & Youth Leadership." Formed alliances with Gen-Shi-Kai Medical Corp to reinforce mobile clinics and diagnostics at the AIDS care center.
Yasuo Shiojiri, who managed all local Kenyan projects for 30+ years, passed away at the age of 72. A memorial service was held in the Embu quarters, attended by hundreds of local community members and staff.
Succeeding the founders' aspirations, Director Michiko Shiojiri, General Manager Sato Yoji, and over 200 local Kenyan staff stand united to advance education, clean health, and environmental sustainability in East Africa.
