:: PREDECESSOR ::

In the early 1980s, the whole region of Turkana, Kenya was hit by a massive drought,which affected many people and animals. This terrible sight was reported through television, newspapers and the like. Three young brothers who saw it wrote in Tenrikyo’s agency newspaper about their donation, and said “Please buy milk for poor Africa children with our pocket money”.In October 1982, the Campaign of “African Hungry Children to Milk” campaign began, where the Tenrikyo Group members made contributions to donate to Turkana.
An NGO was developed and based in Nairobi as Kenya Tenri Society through which emergency relief such as presenting large trucks of food stuffs, medical supplies, clothes and other necessities were distributed. An elementary school was constructed, and in 1989 About 800 million yen donation was sent to Kenya during the 8 years until the end of the drought period.
After 1989, although the emergency relief activities had ended, volunteers who were still willing to support, decided to continue with the support activities.

:: CURRENT ::

Later on, a local office was established in Meru in the Eastern part of Kenya in 1991 with the name “Africa Children’s Education Fund Association” whose motto was “Education for healthy children, medicine for sick children”. We started educational support, health and medical support activities such as setting up and operating clinics and presenting textbooks to about 250 schools.

We later on moved the offices to Embu town in 1996, and established vocational training schools, elementary schools, AIDS orphanages and so on.
Currently, in addition to education and medical support, we have expanded our activity areas to organic farming popularization and environmental conservation among others.
